Postal 2 was released in early 2003. It combines the essence of Postal 1, the strategy game, with the agility of a first person shooter. The idea for the Postal series came from a small team of developers who hand made every aspect of the game.
Postal 2 is about a week in the life of a mailman who has trouble holding back his vulger words. In the week of gameplay, the gamer is required to do various jobs, including the basics like getting milk to more advanced things like voting for elections and getting a Christmas tree. In my opinion, the game is cool because it gives you freedom to do whatever you like. For example, when you go to get milk, you have the choice of stealing the milk, or paying. Unfortunately however, if you choose to not pay for the milk, you have to deal with the man behind the register who holds a shotgun behind the counter. At this point in the game, you are limited to a pistol and/or shovel. Once in that situation, you get to choose whether you'd like to kill the attendant, or run for your life. Just one surprise about running away, taking the back exit sends you into a taliban woman carrying guns. However, the game does not always give you a choice. At times in the game, you are forced to use violence as the answer. Later on in the game, you are given a mission to pick up a package from the mall. When you go to get the package, the bomb explodes, angering many people to the point where they want to kill you. To solve this, you have to go out the back door, fighting off angry civilians on your way. Unfortunately, the game originally had no multiplayer, which I think is a pretty important factor in recent games. After some time, Running With Scissors Inc. started a multiplayer add-on that you could install if you wanted to. They made some new maps to play on, and imported some of the original single player maps. They also made new game modes, such as Death Match, or Team-Death Match. It also had a modified version of capture the flag, except instead of flags, it used hoes. Besides that, they also added a new and improved single player mode, with new weapons, and levels. Unfortunately, as the released date for the single player mode came closer, they decided to make it pay to play, and not just a free download for those who already had Postal 2 installed. Many people were angry, and let-down when this announcement came out. After testing the add-on, I believe it wasnt really worth buying, and the money that would be spent on it should be spent on something else. Nowadays, the only thing thats keeping the game going are the mods that fans are creating for the game, however, those mods are becoming fewer as the days go on.
