NIELSEN RELEASED a survey which it claimed showed that there's a high level of ignorance about illegal file swapping amongst parents.
The survey, commissioned by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), claimed that 40% of 396 parents surveyed didn't know that swapping copyrighted materials is illegal.

But the 40% of parents that do know, don't appear to care too much. Some have even learned how to download music and the like from their kids, Nielsen claimed.

Nielsen said that if parents realised the severity of the penalties for irresponsible downloading, they'd see it as important as not letting kids shoplift.

Parent should undestand that they can be held legally responsible for files their kids have downloaded.

The 396 mums and dads surveyed all have children between the ages of 12 and 17, and, rather obviously, have computers with Internet access.
