Ftp Batch File

I wanted to create a batch file to open a connection in Windows Xp Service Pack 2. The batch file simply contains the line :
ftp myIpAddress
where myIpAddress is the address of my ftp server. When I click the batch file, it runs and infinite loop of the command ftp. What am I doing wrong?
